And while we are talking costs here, you can see how the initial price at the retailers can zoom with potential add-ons. But don’t forget the cost of operating the hot tub. There is the cost of water usage if you don’t have a well on your property. Then there is the cost of heating the water. This can vary depending on the climate in your area, and the location of the hot tub. If it is operated in the cold months outside, it is going to take more energy to get it to a comfortable temperature. Count on anywhere from $20 to $50 per month if you are regularly enjoying your hot tub.
You might be able to cut some of the initial cost of the hot tub by installing it yourself. Promising an invitation to your first hot tub party might induce some of your burlier friends to help you…this is a heavy item. Although the construction might be up your alley, unless you are an electrician, contract out for the electricals. You will more than likely be looking at a 110 or 120 v. situation. And remember the lessons you learned in grade school about the lethal combination of water and electricity.
