Title: it won't hold water - augh!
Post by: eagle on May 29, 2008, 09:17:39 am
I'm glad I've been referred to this site - I was told someone here would be able to help.  My hot tub is leaking - around 5 inches or more per day.  I've taken the side panels off and what little I can see because of insulation is dry.  The main panel where all of the connections, etc are - its totally dry.  The hot tub is sitting on a flatstone patio - the stones are dry, the area around it is dry.  I have no idea where the water is going.  Right now it has maybe 18 inches of water in it.  I've turned it off at the breaker box.

Any idea's?  Of course it is 3 yrs old so it might? be out of warrenty.  No one seems to know - the spa repair guy is trying to work with the company but I've about had it with the entire thing.

Sounds like a question best answered by Steve.  He worked for Hydropool a couple of years ago and might be your best source of information on this forum.

Good luck and don't give up on it.  It is probably something fairly minor that is being overlooked.

At 5"+ per day, it's gotta go somewhere! :o You have a leak at a union or jet body and that foam needs to be removed. A professional can determine where that leak is in short time and it's not a huge deal.

I was a rep for Hydropool for a few years. Where did you buy it? Are they not looking after you? Hydropool is an awesome company and head office will make sure you are looked after if your dealer is a putz.

You can always PM me with the details and I can do what I can to help.

Steve

LOL... thanks Term!  ;)

Depending on model, there is a good chance your warranty on an issue like that is 5 years. Call the dealer.

Plumbing is 3 years but most companies will be accomodating if your warranty just expired.

The Serenity is their entry level line so it doesn't have the same warranty as the Self Clean line.

From their website;

10 Year / 5 Year / 3 Year
Serenity Guarantee
Hydropool Hot Tubs are built to stand
the test of time. Hydropool
guarantees the hot tub shell for a full
10 years, the acrylic surface for 5 years
and the operating equipment and
plumbing for 3 years.

Here's a helpful link for an '05 Serenity Spa:

Thanks for all of the great information.  The company we purchased it from is no longer in business - of course.  We'd had problems a year ago and a repair guy came and looked into it and fixed it.  He handled it through Hydropool warranty.  I've talked with him and he is trying to get Hydropool to warranty this - so far it is a no go.  Our warranty info says:  shell 10 yrs limited warranty, interior surface 3 yrs limited, labour 3 yrs , etc.

We purchased it late 04 and it was delivered Jan 05.  So there you have it.

Sometimes there's a happy medium and other options to get it looked after.

 I sent you a PM...

Steve,
You need to stop kidding yourself. Get back in the spa industry, that's where your heart is. It's obviously not in selling hair dryers to make blue haired old ladies happy or pushing the latest hair gel or whatever other beautification products you deal with.

You have lost that much water and no sign of where it went???   Something is fishy.

Are the pavers/stone its sitting on have a sand base and the water is filtering down through that??
Title: Re: it won't hold water - augh!
Post by: eagle on May 29, 2008, 04:07:02 pm
Yes it is on paver's set in sand.  The area around the hot tub is not wet.  Go figure.  I'm  as puzzled as anyone.  Plus I'm the one without a hot tub, not return calls, closed store where I purchased this this.  Augh.  I have also contracted a large store that is currently selling Hydropool hot tubs.  For the last month they've not been able to order jets.  And now this leak issue - they (the store) asked me who I would call to fix it!  Oh gad, this is depressing me even more.

So I'm going to complain / vent some more.  How many phones calls should I make the the repair guy?  It seems I call and leave a message, it takes a good 24 hr. for him to return the call.  He then says he'll call the company and get back with me.

Now I realize this guy is trying to help and I'm not the only one with hot tub issues but its taken a week, again, for nothing to happen.  Its obvious this won't be fixed any time soon.

The latest today.  It does seem to have stopped leaking - the water level is below all of the jets (except the foot jets.)  I have 2x's called the spa repair guy with no return call and have called Hydropool.  I wasn't able to speak with a person but rather left a message.  We'll see if that's even returned.

Hey Steve, did the PM work?  I might not have done it correctly, operator error, ya know!

I'm not real technical and don't work on spas, but if it stopped leaking below the jets, then I'd say one of your jets is leaking.

Try filling the spa back up above the jets, then get the Phenol red from your test kit.  Put a couple of drops in around the jets.  Watch to see if the phenol red gets sucked in behind a jet.  If it just sits, no leak there, If it flows to the jet and goes around it, you have found where the leak is.  Of course, if it goes into the jet opening, that does not necessarily indicate a leak.

I did reply to the one I received at 4:02pm. Was there another? :-?

Vanguard is right about the chances of it being a jet. Personally, I wouldn't bother with the phenol red. If the water level stays at a certain point, you can bet that it's a jet just above the water line. You can fill it a second time just above the jets at that level and if it drops to the same point again, you have your answer.

When you spoke to the girls at Hydropool head office, who were they attempting to put you through to?

I am assuming there is more than one jet at a certain level.  If there is only one jet at the level of the water, then Steve is right.  Don't worry with the phenol red.  My test is to test multiple jets at the same level.

There are jets on different levels.  The girls put me through to Bob's voice mail.  He didn't return any messages / calls.

The latest.....................  I've slowly put water into the tub and measured it on the jets.  It was not leaking and I'd made it half way full - then I wondered if it could leak because there was air in the lines.  I quickly ran the pump, and saw exactly where the water level was.  This morning it is down about 1 inch.  So is it one of the jets I'd just covered or a connection that is leaking after I'd ran the pump?  I'm calling the repair guy again, hopefully we won't wait 3 days for a return call.

I bet you all wish I'd just take my leaking tub and go away!!!  Finally the repair guy called last week and told me that he was then going to call today.  Hydropool told him that, get this "think its a leak!"  The repair guy said to them we needed the jets because they were broken but the leak isn't from the jets - Hydropool agreed, and said they'd sent jets!!  The repair guy said what jets are you sending and the answer was some - so thats where we are now.  They "should" have sent the jets last Monday - and maybe repair guy would have them and call.  Well...............................  The darned thing has now lost since Thursday another 3 inches of water.  Took the panels off and its dry.   :( :( :(

I'm just keeping you all entertained with this saga, aren't I?  Hydropool sent jets (not sure which ones) to the repair guy.  Well...........this guy hasn't returned a call yet.  If I call  several x's daily I feel as though I'm buging him, but heck he doesn't answer so who cares right?  Send an email and it comes back that it was "received."  Month 3 and the empty saga continues.
