What's your take on floating blankets/covers? Do they save energy, as claimed, or protect your cover?

They do both and I used one. They can be a pain but likely a little better than a wash in ROI. Buy right. Get a good one but shop around, prices vary greatly. 1/4" foam. Not the bubble kind. Might be close to a buck a month savings so you need to get a couple three years out of it. They make reflective on one side. Seems to make sense. Trim for an exact fit. Big first and trim sparingly smaller if needed. Don't let it get so old it starts to deteriorate in your water.

Makes sense it would slightly reduce chemical usage also.

If it only saves a buck a month, is it really worth it? Or is it more about protecting the underside of your cover..

Well if you pay 30 bucks for it and it last's for 3 years. Then the ROI is good. Add to that the reduced sanitizer and the extra protection for your cover. Like I said it may be a wash. Sometimes the piece of mind is worth it.

I picked up the blanket and will be cutting it to size this weekend. Should i lay it over my filter skimmers or do a cut out there??

I don't think I'm going to buy one of these foam blankets. Instead, I'm going to insulate the exterior panels on my jacuzzi tub. I noticed that jacuzzi has a smartseal option, which is just a foil type insulation that is stapled to the inside of the panels. The cost savings per month was significant, going from $17.50 to $11.20 for electrical costs.

Which blanket did you go with, the bubble kind or the foam kind?

cut it around your skimmers but make it tight

I used one with my old tub and they were as easy as pie to deal with. Takes a second to take out and put back in. This will be the first time I have used a full foam cover, though. My old one looked like bubble wrap.

I need to string a line between two trees to hang the blanket, but that is not a big deal. (Thought I could put it on our dog's trolley line, but I hung it a little too high...

I had a "bubble wrap" blanket for my old Coleman, and it seemed to save energy, so it will be interesting to see if this does the same.
